UPDATED: Lagos Police Use Water Cannons, Teargas To Disperse Protesters (Pictures)

Despite the heavy presence of police and other security agencies at Gani Fawehimi Freedom Park, Ojota; some protesters still managed to converge at the venue before they were dispersed.

Our correspondent who was at Ojota reports that as the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu was addressing members of the press; few protesters emerged from and began chanting ‘Yoruba Nation’, now.

Odumosu we gathered addressed the few protesters on what to do to realise their demands without breaking law and order.

It was also gathered that after Odumosu had addressed the protesters; some others tried to join but the security officers on ground told them to go back.

As at the time of filing this report, the police had been able to disperse the protesters using water cannons and teargas.

Earlier while speaking to members of the press, Odumosu said that the reason why the command was against the rally at this particular moment was because of intelligence information which suggests possible breakdown of law and other.

“We are opposed to the rally because the organisers could not guarantee that it would be a peaceful rally. We told them to give us things that would allow us to identify them; they did not. We don’t want a repeat of ‘EndSARS’ . That is why we are against the rally.”
