The United Nations has assured Alimosho local government of its readiness to partner in the development of Girls’ Child and other socioeconomic development projects.
This assurance was given by the United Nations National Information Officer in Nigeria, Dr. Oluseyi Shoremekun when he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Chairman, Alimosho local government Hon. Jelili Sulaimon in his office ahead of this year International Girls’ Child Day.
Dr. Shoremekun said the visit is necessary to appreciate the readiness of the council which planned to host and institutionalise the celebration of International Girls’ Child Day adding that the UN will work to consolidate the new partnership between it and the local government.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Sulaimon said his administration is committed to the empowerment of the people of Alimosho local government hence the need to educate the girls’ child on her potentials of being self reliant and productive.
The Chairman noted that the partnership with the United Nations is to attract foreign collaboration with the government in the delivery of yearnings and aspirations of the people.
Hon. Sulaimon however seeks UN collaborations through introduction of donor agencies to the activities of his government adding that the people of Alimosho will benefit a lot from the international body.
In his reaction, the Vice Chairman of the local government Hon. Francis Adebisi thanked the UN officials for their visit urging the international bodies to extend attention to male child whose responsibilities in a home cannot be qualified.
Meanwhile, the International Girls’ Child Day is celebrated worldwide every October 11 to draw global attention to the vulnerabilities and potentials of the girls’ child. And Alimosho local government will host over 400 girl students drawn from public and private schools mainly from the local government area to mark the event.
