The activities marking the exit of Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji continued on Saturday when traditionalists converged on Popoyemoja Palace of the late Monach to offer prayers for the repose of the soul of the late monarch.
Traditionalists under the aegies of Indigenous Faith of Africa (Ile Ijuba Eledumare Ose-Meji Temple, Oja-Oba, Ibadan), led by Araba of Ile Ibadan and Olu Isese of Oyo State, High Chief Ifalere Odegbemi Odegbola II, offered prayers for the repose of the soul of late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji and the entire Ibadanland.
Speaking at the event that had in attendance former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN) and other dignitaries witnessed how traditionalists took turn to offer prayers for the repose of the soul of Olubadan and the general peace of Ibadanland.
While eulogising the late Olubadan, Araba of Ibadanland said that Oba Saliu Adetunji was a king that stood out among all the kings, Ibadan has ever had.
“This is a king that allowed all religious group to operate unhindered in Ibadanland. He never discriminated against any religion. That was why his reign was peaceful and Ibadanland experienced unprecedented development.
Araba of Ibadanland also urged those at the helm of affairs in Oyo state, to emulate the late monarch by ensuring that all religious groups are accomodated for the peace and development of the State.
“It is very unfortunate that it is only when politicians want to contest for elective offices that they value traditional worshippers. The moment we pray for them traditionally and they get what they want, they forget about us.
“Those in the helm of affairs in the state should emulate late Oba Saliu Adetunji who allowed all religious bodies to operate unhindered. Traditionalists are also stakeholders that government should also recognise.”
