NNPC: Senate Probes Kachikwu’s Allegations Against Baru

The Senate on Wednesday constituted a panel to probe the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Maikanti Baru, over allegations made against him by the minister of state for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, in a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari.
While announcing the composition of the committee during plenary, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki said the contents of the letter, reportedly written to President Muhammadu Buhari by Kachikwu, must be investigated.
The committee is also expected to probe another claim that the Baru singlehandedly awarded a contract to a company, worth billions of dollars, despite its lack of capacity to handle such.
The panel, which is headed by Senator Aliu Wamakko, will among other issues
also investigate the policy introduced by the NNPC Trading Limited, a subsidiary of the state oil corporation.
