Founder of Development For Africa Needs and Progress Initiatives (DANPI), Dr. Adebayo Adepoju has given kudos to lawmakers in Ekiti state over the completion of bill on South West Security outfit known as Amotekun.
Dr. Adepoju who spoke with newsmen in Ibadan on Monday pointed out that the decision shows the commitment of the legislators and the executives in the South West to the security of those who voted them into power.
The NGO boss who was a candidate to the House of Representative for Ibarapa Central Constituency on the platform of Zenith Labour Party in the 2019 elections said that lawmakers were expected to be sensitive to the needs of their constituents at all times.
The politician commended the parliamentarians at the National Assembly for their synergy with the Executive adding that it was a good development for the political development in the country.
He said that the controversy on the salary and allowances of lawmakers would not have been necessary if their duties could be on part time basis adding that they deserve being made comfortable and “without the largest chunk of budget being spent on them”
Dr.Adepoju equally lauded the electorate for eschewing violence and resisting all forms of inducement by desperate politicians who wanted to be in power at all costs .
“Though tension and apprehensions were high during the 2019 campaigns and elections, residents of the state and INEC worked in synergy to confirm that Oyo remains a pace setter in all respects. I believe the same would be replicated in the next elections”, the Igbo Ora born politician explained.
Dr. Adepoju who is an advocate of youth taking active part in politics said that he has the conviction that youths have very articulate, fresh and unpolluted ideas, adding that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State who is a youth, is an example to be emulated because of his brilliance and intellect.
‘”This Governor who is a youth is undoubtedly doing well to the admiration of Oyo residents. The Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly and a youth appointed as Commissioner are pride to the youths”, he said.
Dr. Adepoju believes that encouraging the youths into politics was a paradigm shift from old ideas because youths from different backgrounds and states particularly, those in the National Assembly, would be able to make better laws that would better the lot of Nigerians.
