The Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to as a matter of urgent national interest call the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to order over its new payment method.
The Association in a press release signed by its National President, Chief Dr Kolawole Adewoyin said that the association condemns in strong terms the new payment method, PPMC Customer Express that was
imposed on its members by Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
“We are using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to call Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to order over its new payment method, PPMC Customer Express. As major stakeholders in the downstream sector we ought to be given up to 60 days to load our tickets in the system both local and bridging before such payment could be introduced.”
According to him, the new payment method will affect many members of the association as only major marketers and few independent marketers with huge funds would be able to pay for 200 trucks and load them while those who had paid for one of two trucks would be on queue for many months unattended to.
“It is obvious that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is trying to create a problem that will plunge Nigeria into economic crisis. If there is shortage of fuel supply or fuel hike, Nigerians should hold the NNPC responsible and not the IPMAN.
“As a responsible association we will continue to do our best to prevent fuel scarcity. However, members of the public should hold NNPC responsible for any scarcity or hike in the price of petrol.”
The National President of IPMAN however assured the members of the association that his leadership has already swung into action to ensure that the new payment method is reversed.
