LASG Hands Over Modern Bus Park To Marina NURTW For Operation

As part of measures to eliminate the persistent traffic gridlock on the Marina-Apongbon axis, Lagos State Government, recently, hand over a newly built bus park at “Ajeigboro,” Marina to officials of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, for public use.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business District, CBD, Mr. Agboola Dabiri, while commissioning the park, said the decision to create a bus park at Apongbon axis was taken at the State Executive Council meeting where Governor Akinwunmi Ambode mandated his agency to create the park as part of effort at seeking lasting solution to the incessant traffic situation experienced in the axis.
Dabiri, revealed that with the commissioning and hand-over of the facility to members of the union, the State Government would no longer tolerate the indiscriminate boarding and alighting of passengers by commercial vehicles from broad street, Marina and Apongbon environs.
He warned that any vehicle caught flouting the directive along the designated routes will have their vehicle impounded and driver prosecuted.
Dabiri said, “The construction of this bus park by the Lagos State Government and handing over to the Union is first of its kind in the State. I therefore, urged you to make good use of the facility and ensure that the purpose of creating the park which is to decongest traffic on the Marina – Apongbon axis is achieved.
“It took the State Government through the Office of the Special Adviser on CBD about six months to complete the construction of this bus park and a committee of stakeholders has been set up to see to the day to day running of the bus park. I urged the committee members to ensure that all relevant environmental and safety rules are strictly observed”
The State Chairman of the NURTW, Mr. Tajudeen Agbede commended the state government gesture for making the construction of the park a reality.
“The Union and our members are surprised at this good gesture by the Lagos State Government because we were sceptical at first when the idea to construct the bus park was first brought to our notice.”
He there warned members to adhere to rules of engagement as anyone caught flouting the rules will face full sanction.
