Kidnapped Ex-Nasarawa Deputy Governor Regains Freedom

Onje Gye-Wado, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa abducted by gunmen on April 7, has been released.

DSP Ramhan Nansel, the police spokesman in the state, confirmed this to journalists on Monday in Lafia.

The officer said the former deputy governor regained freedom at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday and was reunited with his family.

Mr Nansel, who said no arrest had been made yet, added that the police were unaware of any ransom paid before the release.

According to him, the ex-deputy governor was released due to sustained pressure mounted on the kidnappers by a combined team of security agencies.

Mr Gye-Wado, a deputy governor between 1999 and 2003 in the administration of Abdullahi Adamu, was kidnapped at his residence in Wamba local government area.
