INVESTIGATION: How Igboho Was Disembarked From Plane By Republican Police, Now In Custody Of ‘Cotonou Criminal Brigade’

Investigation by TheDispatchng has revealed that Oduduwa nation agitator,  Sunday Adeyemo known as Sunday Igboho and his wife had boarded a plane enroute Germany before they were disembarked  by Republican police at Cardinal Bernardin international airport in Cotonou.

The Yoruba Nation agitator who was declared wanted by the Nigerian Secret Police three weeks ago for being in possession of arms and ammunitions is currently being held by Cotonou Criminal Brigade after being arrested by Beninese Police on Monday July 19, 2021, at Cardinal Bernardin international airport in Cotonou.

According to information obtained by Banouto newspaper,  Igboho and wife were disembarked from his plane and arrested by the Beninese police while he was trying to travel to Germany.

The agitator was then transferred to the Cotonou Criminal Brigade.

Further investigations showed that if the existing agreement  between Nigeria and  Benin Republic is anything to go by,  Sunday Igboho’s extradition should be concluded without hindrance.

However, Igboho’s lawyer,  Chief Yomi Aliu has called on the government of Benin Republic to prevent the extradition of Mr. Igboho to Nigeria.

“I call upon you to rise up and curb the impunity of the Nigerian Government by refusing any application for extradition of our client who already has an application before the International Criminal Court duly acknowledged,”

“The Extradition Treaty of 1984 between Togo, Nigeria, Ghana and Republic of Benin excluded political fugitives.”

“It also states that where the fugitive will not get justice because of discrimination and/or undue delay in prosecution the host country should not release the fugitive.”

“Now, Article 20 of African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights to which the four countries are signatories made agitation for self-determination a fundamental right to be protected by all countries. This made Chief Sunday Adeyemo a POLITICAL OFFENDER who cannot be deported and/or extradited by the good people of the Republic of Benin for any reason.”

It was also gathered that Sunday Igboho might be appearing before a court in Benin Republic over the Beninese International Passport he was holding.
