Insecurity: Shafaudeen Founder Gives Support For Establishment Of Local Security Outfit In Southwest

. Calls For Withdrawal Of 80% Of Police Personnel Attached To Wealthy Nigerians
The Founder and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke has given his support for the establishment of local security outfit in the Southwest to curb the current insecurity facing the region.

The religious leader stated this in a lecture he delivered at the ‘Straight Times Annual Lecture held at Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Press Centre in Ibadan.

According to him, there is need to train the local people like the OPC, Agbekoya and others at Para-military level to get involved as local security outfit.

“The global terrorism index (TI) rated the Fulani herdsmen as the fourth deadliest terrorist group in the world in 2015. The security issue at its peak calls for the state police establishment. There is a need to train the local people like OPC, Agbekoya and others at Para-military level to get involved as local security outfit because the local people understand their terrain more than strangers or visitors. From them and others we can constitute an intelligence body that work with the federal security agency to tackle security challenges facing the Yoruba and by extension facing the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Speaking further, the cleric also called for the withdrawal of 80% of police personnel in the service of the wealthy individuals and deploy them to the state for better and effective policing across the country.

“Withdraw the 80% of Police personnel in the service of the wealthy individuals and deploy them to the state for better effective policing across the country. Soldiers on the highways may not solve the problem. Traditional rulers and the governors have more knowledge of the sources of insecurity, most of which are deliberate and artificially created hence there is need for them to be decisive as security chiefs of states.”
