INEC Declares Wike Winner In Rivers Governorship Poll

Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been reelected for a second and final term in office, Teddy Adias, the chief returning officer of the election, declared Wednesday after the collation of votes at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Port Harcourt.

Wike polled a total of 886,264 votes to defeat Biokpomabo Awara of the African Action Congress (AAC), who had 173,859 votes with a margin of 712,405 between the two candidates.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had announced results from 15 local government areas with Wike polling 426,369 votes against 129,855 votes secured by Amara.

The lead was extended further when the commission announced four more results on Wednesday.
