I’m The Authentic Onido Of Ido; The Father Of The Person Now Appointed As Onido Was A Labourer In My Father’s Farm

The Onido of Ido, Chief Tajudeen Adelani Akinola Agura  has said that the father of his rival appointed as Onido by Olubadan of Ibadanland was just a Labourer in his father’s farm many years back.

According to him, only a male child who is from male lineage of Agura family can assume the position of Onido of Ido.

“Let me tell you truth about what is happening in Ido now. We now have an impostor parading himself as Onido. Here is a man who is not from ‘Agura’ family parading himself as Onido while in actual sense his father was just a labourer in my father’s farm many years ago.”

He added: “Let me tell you little history of Ido. Ido had been in existence since 1700 and my great grand father, ‘Agura Ile Ido’ migrated from Ile Ife. He was a warrior who was one of the people Lagelu invited to Ibadan to participate in wars on behalf of Ibadan. As a matter of fact, Lagelu gave my great grandfather, Agura Ile Ido a land at Oja Oba where he built a house called ‘Ile Apero Ogun”, (war strategy house) and now referred to ‘Ile Peero. My great grandfather mobilized warriors and participated in the war against ‘Olowu’, when he sacrificed Nkanlola, daughter of the then ‘Baale Ibadan to river Odo Oba. The book by Oba Akinyele can attest to all these things I’m saying.”

“The person claiming to be Onido is a liar because in Yorubaland; you don’t worship two idols in a family. We’re founded by Osun deity and that is why we all have Osun as prefix to our names right from the time of my great grandfather. I’m Adeosun and my father was Osuntola. We all use Osun as nomenclature. So I’m telling you that anybody who is not from male section of Agura family and who doesn’t have Osun as part of his name cannot claim to be Onido.”

Speaking further,  Onido said that the person claiming to be Onido has also encroached and already built a house on his land.

“You can imagine a person who claims that he bought a land from tenants and not from the landlord. I’m the landlord and the owner of the land where he built a house.”

Efforts to get the reaction of the appointed Baale Gbolagade Muritala Babalola proved abortive as calls made to his phone were not picked.
