A group known as Yoruba Youth Forum (YYF) has berated Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka and the Chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what it described as ‘relentless attacks’ on former President Olusegun Obasanjo,
The group in a press release signed by its Chairman, Olusegun Abiodun Bolarinwa and made available to journalists, stated that frequent attacks by both Soyinka and Tinubu on Obasanjo have shown that both of them still see him as a threat to achieving their selfish agendas.
Speaking further, the group in particular accused Soyinka of peddling and circulating many spurious and inaccurate information about the person of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
“We’re aware that our Nobel laureate is still looking for a kind of relevance that requires him to descend so low to the extent of peddling lies against Chief Obasanjo. His recent utterances are devoid of any fact but one with laced with sentiments.”
It added: “Even his recent book is full of lies and many inaccurate information about the person of Chief Obasanjo, and full of crass envy and venom. The book is not only a figment of the imagination of Soyinka, but lacks substance in its entirety.”
YYF added that both Soyinka and Tinubu are only embarking on a vicious campaign to deconstruct and distort history because Obasanjo’s achievements have surpassed theirs.
“Soyinka and Tinubu’s attack on Obasanjo are purely for self glorification and perhaps a means of showing a perceived grudge and settling a personal vendetta with a man whose records had remained unsurpassed by his contemporaries. We can interpret these attacks on Obasanjo as deep seethed prejudice, which Yoruba’s call ‘ilara’.
” YYF is of the opinion that no amount of such spurious claims and livid inaccuracies from certified saboteurs of visions and under-achievers will change or erase the achievements of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in Nigeria and even internationally.”
