Just as Nigeria continues to battle the COVID-19, Omicron variant and other deadly diseases, the Oyo state Chairman of National Association of Herbal Medicine Employers (NAHME), Dr. Fatai Ayedun has called on federal government, state governments and local governments to involve members of the association in finding cure to all the deadly diseases threatening the survival of humanity.
Dr Ayedun who stated this in a meeting of the executive members of the association in Ibadan, said that herbal medicine can play a prominent role in the treatment of COVID-19, Omicron variant and other deadly diseases if the government at all levels could involve members of the association.
“We all know that herbal medicine is what our forefathers used in the treatment of many diseases during their time. And we also know that medicinal plants have been used in healthcare delivery since the time immemorial. Studies have been carried out globally to verify the efficacy and some of the findings have led to the production of plant-based medicines that are very effective in the treatment certain diseases today.”
He added that the usefulness of herbal medicine and the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of chronic diseases cannot be overemphasised.
Dr Ayedun therefore call on government at all levels to involve members of the association in tackling and finding cure to some of the deadly diseases threatening the existence of humanity.
