The Oyo State Governor of Oodua Peoples Congress, Reformed, Comrade Moshood Akande has said that there is no plan put in place to turn OPC into political party.
Akande while speaking to journalists in Ibadan said that the statement made by Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland and National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Iba Gani Adams that OPC might later become a political party goes against the purpose in which the group was formed.
“The statement credited to Aare Gani Adams that OPC might later become a political party is not only a figment of imagination, but our Aare is on his own on this. I want to believe that Aare Adams is only talking about his own faction because he cannot speak for the entire OPC. He cannot destroy the legacies of OPC founding fathers.”
He added that what Adams ought to have done was to harmonise all OPC factions but according to him, he is not doing that.
Also speaking on insecurity in Yorubaland, Comrade Akande said that his faction of OPC has been assisting law enforcement agencies to rid the region of criminals.
“We have been doing everything within our power to rid southwest, especially Oyo state of criminals who are terrorising the State. Only last week, a Divisional Police Officer, requested for our assistance in bringing peace to a protest involving motorcycle riders popularly known as Okada riders. Glory be to God we were able to offer our assistance and the protest which would have been bloody was brought under control.”
