FRSC Cautions Politicians Against Use Of Unauthorised Number Plates

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned politicians against the use of party insignia and pictures instead of government approved vehicle number plates.

In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers Sector Commander Salisu Galadunci, described the unauthorised use as a security risk.

Mr Galadunci, in the statement signed by Deputy Route Commander, Juliana Eni, said the abuse of number plates was capable of truncating the operations of the FRSC.

“My attention has been drawn to reports by some route officers who have noticed that some overzealous political party supporters have now resorted to engraving party insignia and pictures of candidates on vehicle number plates.

“This practice is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated irrespective of candidates or political parties involved, the agency will take decisive steps within the ambit of the law to curb this,” Mr Galadunci said.

The FRSC boss urged security agencies and other stakeholders in the state to clamp down on the trend, while appealing to leaders of political parties and organisers of party rallies to join in promoting traffic safety in the state.
