The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has condemned the mob attack and killing of two herders in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered on Sunday that a mob attacked, killed and burnt two herders over unsubstantiated claims that they had a connection with bandits.
Reacting to the incident, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement said the security agencies in the area reported that the mob forcibly seized the two herders from security personnel.
After seizing the victims from security personnel, the mob lynched and burnt them.
The statement stated that Governor El-Rufai expressed deep concern about the violent actions of the mob and strongly condemned the extra-judicial killings.
The governor re-emphasised the place of lawful methods as the only acceptable option in confronting any suspicions of criminality in the state and across Nigeria and therefore warned residents not to take the law into their hands by lynching suspects.
While appealing to the families of the victims to remain calm, the governor directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to fish out the perpetrators.
He further directed the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to liaise with the military, police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to contact the victims’ families for further engagements toward averting reprisals.
