Ekiti Reopens Sex Offenders Register, Establishes Justice Academy

Ekiti State Executive Council today, November 21, 2018 reopened the Sex Offenders Register and Established Justice Academy.

The council meeting presided over by the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, approved the enactment of two bills: The Ekiti State Property Protection (Anti Land Grabbing) Bill, 2018.

This is a bill to prohibit forceful entry, illegal occupation of landed property, volent and fraudulent conduct in relation to landed properties in Ekiti State.

The second bill is the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Bill. The bill is to mainstream sustainable development goals across the workings of government and to raise awareness of sustainable development goals and practices across Ekiti State.

Council also approved a memorandum on  specific interventions and activities for transforming the administration of justice system and state legal affairs as presented by Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

Key activities in this memorandum includes a reopening of the sex offenders register, the establishment of a Ministry of Justice Academy, the publication of the Laws of Ekiti State and the inauguration of the Ekiti State Administration of Justice Council.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, who briefed  Journalists after the meeting, the purpose of these bills and interventions  is to strengthen good governance and enhance rapid socio-economic development in Ekiti State.
