Coach Victor Olabiwonninu facilitates Silver Medallist Samson Kowei for bringing Laurel to Oyo State and Iyaganku Police Barracks in the recently concluded South-West Zonal Karate Championship held in Ogun State.
The 19 years old sportsperson was honoured because his unbeatable record until the gold medallist won with two points.
Coach Ola said, “The competition is an expression of successes that await the domestic sport industry in Nigeria as youths are more engaged in sporting activities. This competition is a pure reflection of the hope that Nigeria has in sports champions are daily made across the country from different quarters.
“As a coach, we are sometimes play parenting roles in order to bring out the gaints in our players. For an instance, my player’s silver medal is an indicator that African champions remain champions even in the face of any or no medal because Samson is a golden star that the world awaits.
“We need more media attention from the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). If the media should assist in celebrating our champions in local competitions; it will go along way in developing our sports.”
“I am really happy that the organizers are fair enough to have created a conducive environment for the competition to take place”, he concluded.
