By Emmanuel Kehinde, Ilorin

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), has taken safety campaign to students of St. Barnabas Secondary School, Ilorin as part of their social responsibility to mark children’s day in the state.

The Kwara State Acting Regional Head, Mr Christopher Lawal, made this known on Thursday in Ilorin while lecturing the students on safety tips to operate electrical appliances.

Lawal explained that the programme is organised to mark safety week with various sensitization activities including visit to stakeholders across all franchise.

According to him, part of these stakeholders are schools, not only because they are our customers but also because schools are breeding ground for the leaders of tomorrow.

“So, if our nation must grow as desired, then individuals and corporate organizations must start building the minds of young ones with the right information and public safety.

“IBEDC is a private organization that distributes electricity to Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Kwara and parts of Niger, Ekiti and Kogi states,’’ Lawal said.

He advised the students not to touch any electrical appliances with wet hand.

Lawal also warned them to always put on robber slippers when touching electrical appliances.

He urged parents to report any falling poles or wires to the nearest IBEDC office, saying that they should desist from clamping the poles if they are not one of their staff for safety reasons.

He also called on market women to stop displaying their items beside transformer house and also stop keeping their stuff there to avoid accident.
