Buhari’s Former Minister, ‘Mama Taraba’ Is Dead

Former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Aisha-Jummai Alhassan, has died in a hospital at Cairo in Egypt.

Aged 61, she died on Friday afternoon.

No details have been given about her health condition in the unnamed Cairo hospital.

“Mama Taraba,” as she was fondly called, had been appointed a Minister in the 2015 cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The position had served to compensate her over losing the 2015 governorship election to Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State.

She resigned her ministerial appointment in July 2018 to contest again the governorship election, but got disqualified by the APC Screening Committee, a development that killed her aspiration to contest the party’s 2019 governorship primaries.
