Antonio Conte believes Chelsea’s goalless draw against Everton was an “unfair” result because the Blues dominated the clash at Goodison Park.
Despite not having first-choice striker Alvaro Morata available for the league game, Chelsea had 25 shots at goal to the hosts’ five yet could not breach Everton’s resolute defence as Jordan Pickford pulled out several saves to deny the champions.
The draw means Chelsea failed to move level on points with second-placed Manchester United, and now sit four points above fourth-placed Liverpool.
And Conte thinks that Chelsea’s performance was such that the Blues deserved to walk away from Liverpool with all three points.
He told Sky Sports: “We had 26 shots, only eight on target. I think we dominated the game and lots of chances to score.
“I think it is unfair result. Everton deserve credit but we deserve to win.
“Maybe Jordan Pickford was the best player for them.
“We dominated the game and it is a pity to drop two points. It is normal to drop points with a poor performance but not today.
“It is not simple to dominate here, we needed a bit of luck.”
However, Everton boss Sam Allardyce was pleased to see his side keep their undefeated run since he took charge alive with the draw against Chelsea.
He said: “Hard-earned is certainly right. In terms of effort, commitment, organisation, we have played a hugely talented front five and have had a bit of luck but rolled up our sleeves to get a result.
“It keeps the undefeated run going, and you have to respect a point against the big boys.
“It is disappointing that we did not really threaten their goal apart from Michael Keane’s header at the end. The quality of the ball was disappointing today, but the effort was top class and we are well satisfied with a point.
“We want to be better in possession, but when we dominated Swansea, that is what we will be like against other teams.”
