Again, Kidnappers Attack Passengers On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Suspected kidnappers have reportedly attacked passengers travelling along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The gunmen, who launched the attack on Tuesday, were said to have been dressed in military uniforms.

The gunmen reportedly came out of the bush and started firing bullets at passengers of an 18-seater bus on the Sagamu axis of the expressway.

The affected passengers were said to have laid flat inside the bus to avoid being hit by bullets.

In a video taken after the incident, some of the affected passengers narrated how the driver could not control the bus during the shooting.

The video also showed some of the injured passengers.

Confirming the incident, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun police spokesperson, on Wednesday, said the gunmen were kidnappers who wanted to engage in their activities along the highway.

Oyeyemi said the police officers who were present at the highway engaged the gunmen in a gun duel.

“Some of the gunmen left the scene with bullet wounds. At the moment, our men are combing the bush to get the dead bodies of some of the gunmen,” he said.

Over the past few months, there have been a series of reports on the high rate of robbery and kidnapping along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

On October 28, an unspecified number of motorists were kidnapped along the Lagos-Ibadan road, including Adigun Agbaje, a former deputy vice-chancellor (academics) of the University of Ibadan..

Agbaje regained his freedom after spending two nights in captivity.
