A clarion call has been made for collaborative efforts of diverse stakeholders in the Nigerian education sector to move it to enviable pedestal from its present agonizing status.
The convener of annual Spelling Bee who stated that she’s interested in raising balanced child for a better society charged all hands to be on deck in order to rescue the situation for the sake of the future and for the generation yet-on-born.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, the initiator of Annual Spelling Bee programme, Barrister Ifeoluwa Oladunjoye who is a graduate of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), suggested that those concerned stakeholders in education sector should be preparing the young citizens for current and future job opportunities.
She observed that the reading culture by children of nowadays is nothing to write home about, adding that parents, pupils and all other stakeholders including government at all levels must be more proactive in order to revive the situation at hand.
Oladunjoye, a trained lawyer said: “We believe that children are the message we send into the future we cannot see and the better trained and equiped they are, the better our society will be.
“The goal is not to raise a perfect child because there is no perfection in any human, the goal is to raise a balanced child, well grounded in every aspect of life who grow up to become the desirable adult.
The children enthusiast premised attainment of such feat on more high quality education, development of talents for international opportunities and resources to operate optimally at a global standard with a view to competing with other world players in education.
“Annual Spelling Bee is the first of our series of event. Beyond the ability to spell, participants are able to build and develop confidence, communication and public speaking skills.
She affairmed that they will continue to organise series of event and groom the children with skills and value system that will make them stand at par with peers all over the world.
In the Annual Spelling Bee competition organized for the puplis, Lebile Zahara from Brainiacs International School emerged the best out of the eighteen participants, Inioluwa Afolayan from Treasured Heritage Schools came second, while Damisi Oyinloye from Divine Touch International School came third.
In a separate interview, parents, teachers and pupils who spoke with journalists include Elder Iwalola Oladunjoye-Aguda, Mr Olorunfemi Deji and Master Babalola Darasimi commended the efforts of the initiator for her concerned at re-biulding the nation’s education sector.
They said, they believed that the time has come when elementary, post-elementary and higher education should be given its pride of place by those who formulate and implement the countries education policies for the benefit of the society in different strata of human endeavor.
The event which was aiming at raising new generation was the initiative of Barrister Ifeoluwa Oladunjoye, a native of Iloro-Ekiti in Ijero local government area of the state had it’s participants drawn from various schools which include Brainiacs International School, Rosebud Nursery & Primary school, Dorcas Place School, The Cradle School, Adonai International School, Canaaland Group of School, Divine Touch School, Beautiful Beginning Integrated School and Treasured Herritage School all in Ado-Ekiti.
