The Onimedu of Orimedu, Ibeju-Lekki Oba Hamzat Atiku,  has warned youths in the area to shun any acts of violence, indiscipline and cultism, saying that any one caught in the act would be arrested and handed over to police authority for appropriate action.

The monarch gave the warning at the weekend during the hand-over ceremony of furniture and computers to administrators of Orimedu Community High School, Orimedu, which simultaneouslly, took place in otherschools in the other three zones of the district, donated by Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial District.

The monarch, while congratulating the pupils and administrators of the school for being the beneficiaries of the gesture from the senator, charged the pupils to take advantage of the opportunity afforded and engage themselves in quality academic activities that will make them a good and responsible citizen for their country and their family rather than taking to acts of indiscipline.

According to him: “I want to use this opportunity to warn you the pupils and youths in this area to stay away from all forms of crimes, especially cultism. If anyone is caught, I will be the one to handover such person to the police for prosecution. I will not shield anyone from being punished. You just have to face your studies to be responsible citizens.”

Atiku, however, commended Ashafa for the kind gesture adding that I would go a long way in boosting education standard of the pupil and the school.

He therefore, called on other well to personalities to emulate the senator by coming forward to complement government’s effort in investing in education development, especially at the rural areas.

Ashafa, in his address, said he decided to give the items because the world is going fully digital.

His words: “If we all take a look at how the world is evolving today, we would see that Information Communication Technology (ICT) is immensely influencing the society and education is not left out of it.

“I can not over emphasize the need for ICT in Nigerian Secondary Schools. The ability to use computers effectively has become an essential part of every one’s education.

“In Nigeria of today, If we take a look at our primary and secondary schools we would notice that till date the chalk board and textbooks still dominate class room activities. There is a need for a change in the status quo.

“With the high demand for computer literacy especially by employers it has become necessary for us  to ensure that right from primary school to secondary school our children have access to computers for quickly development and enhancement of their ICT skills.

“Having realized the need for early acquisition of ICT Skills by students we thought it best to find ways to provide the necessary tools for our students to acquire the necessary computer skills that will aid them in their education. As such we decided to procure computers to be distributed to selected schools in Lagos East.

“Orimedu Community High school happens to be one out of the five selected schools in Lagos East Senatorial District that these computers will be distributed to for the benefit of our students. These 5 selected schools is just the first batch. At a later time there will be another batch where other schools will also be selected to benefit.

“It is my hope that as we hand over these set of computers and furniture to the school today, the school management will make effective and efficient use of it in the teaching and learning process for the development of our students while also making sure that the computers are well taken care of for continuous use of students.”
